Job Summary
HIV Counselor position involved in HIV counseling and obtaining specimens at Henry J. Austin Health Center and partner sites. Responsibilities include patient screening, collecting demographic history, providing pre- and post-test counseling, maintaining confidential records, completing logs/reports, making referrals to social services and case-management resources, distributing educational materials and condoms, and collaborating with the health care team. Requires a high school diploma with two years of counseling experience (Bachelor’s degree preferred), completion of the NJSDH HIV Counselor Training Program, proficiency in rapid HIV testing, and ability to perform phlebotomy. Strong communication, confidentiality, and teamwork skills are essential; work hours may vary and sites may include multiple locations in the Trenton, NJ area.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma
- Two years of counseling experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Must successfully complete the NJSDH HIV Counselor Training Program
- Must obtain and maintain proficiency certification for performing Rapid HIV testing
- Must successfully complete and be able to perform as a phlebotomist
