Job Summary
Process and prepare tissue specimens for examination by Pathologists using manual methods or processing equipment to ensure proper fixation. Identify specimen orientation, embed samples in paraffin, and perform microtomy to render quality sections for diagnosis. Produce consistent microscopic slides, execute routine and special staining procedures, and maintain equipment within the preventive maintenance program. Assist with inventory management, Quality Improvement tracking, and the evaluation of new instruments. Participate in competency assessments, maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems, and train new employees. Work full-time nights at Geisinger Medical Center with off-shift differentials and incentives.
Required Qualifications
- HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP)
- Graduate from Specialty Training Program
- Minimum of 1 year-Laboratory
- Certified Histotechnician - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
