Job Summary
Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam by sectioning embedded tissue with a microtome and mounting sections on slides. Perform immunohistochemical tests, process mounted sections through routine and special staining, and prepare necessary stains and reagents. Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments while documenting equipment maintenance, logs, and preventive quality control procedures. Adhere to laboratory quality policies, report accurate test results, and document corrective actions for any issues affecting performance. Work per diem as needed in a high-volume environment.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 or more years of histology experience
- Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
- Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
- Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Proficient with computers
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Desired Qualifications
- 3 months or more of histology experience
- 3 months or more of Immunohistochemistry experience
- Histology and/or ASCP certifications
