Job Summary
Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam by sectioning embedded tissue with a microtome and mounting sections on microscope slides. Perform routine and special staining procedures, orient specimens, and prepare necessary stains and reagents. Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments, documenting equipment maintenance, log data, and preventive quality control procedures. Report accurate and timely test results while adhering to laboratory quality control policies and specimen handling protocols. Document problems affecting test performance and execute corrective actions as needed. Work Monday through Friday from 10pm to 6:30am with additional hours possible.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Histology or a High School diploma or equivalent with 1 year or more of histology experience
- Monday - Friday 10pm -6:30am
- Additional hours may be required depending on business needs
- Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
- Immunohistochemistry experience
- Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
- Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
- Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
- Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
- Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
Desired Qualifications
- Current or prior Labcorp experience
- Histology and/or ASCP certifications
