Job Summary
Histotechnician processes human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam; performs histopathology slide production and embedding, sectioning with a microtome, and mounting sections on slides. Conducts immunohistochemical tests on formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue, performs routine and special staining, and prepares stains and reagents for procedures. Responsible for accurate reporting of test results, operation and maintenance of manual and automated instruments, and documentation of equipment logs and preventive maintenance. Maintains adherence to QC policies, follows specimen handling procedures, documents problems affecting test performance, and takes corrective actions as needed. Requires an Associate’s degree in a chemical/biological science or medical technology field and Histology and/or ASCP certifications; preferred candidates have 3+ months in Histology and 3+ months in Immunohistochemistry, ability to work independently and in a team, strong computer/lab information system familiarity, attention to detail, color-blindness screening, and flexibility to work overtime or other shifts as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
- Histology and/or ASCP certifications
