Job Summary
Perform histologic procedures on patient specimens including identification, processing, fixation, dehydration, embedding, microtomy, sectioning, cover-slipping, staining, and immunohistochemical management. Provide quality slides to pathologists for diagnosis and assist with frozen sections. Collect, change, and dispose of chemical solutions and medical waste. Evaluate and document quality control according to established guidelines and participate in departmental quality assurance activities. Read and understand Standard Operating Procedures while demonstrating effective problem-solving and team-building skills. This full-time role in Glens Falls requires a New York State license and ASCP board certification, with hours between 4 am and 5 pm on weekdays.
Required Qualifications
- 2-year Associates in Science in a certified histological technician program or higher
- New York State License Histotechnician
- ASCP board certification
- Ability to read and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) and departmental procedures
- Ability to understand and comply with department/organizational safety manuals
- Ability to understand communication with attending pathologist and or pathology assistant in both written and oral forms
- Ability to demonstrate effective problem solving and team building skills
- Ability to coach and orient newer staff regarding SOPS
