Job Summary
Prepare tissue specimens for routine and special procedures to confirm pathologist diagnoses by operating computerized laboratory equipment for fixation, dehydration, and paraffin embedding. Process slides using specified stains to enhance microscopic visibility, perform quality assurance checks, and verify slide and block matches. Manage unexpected lab situations, including instrument problems, and maintain QC/QA records and CLIA documentation. Operate slide stainers, file blocks appropriately, and log cases in the biopsy book. Perform histochemistry and immunohistochemistry studies as requested. Requires standing and walking for eight hours daily, full range of motion, and ability to lift up to 20 pounds. HS Diploma with one to two years of lab experience preferred.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to tolerate standing and walking for 8 hours per day
- Must have full range of body motion with the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, stand, stoop, stretch, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds
- Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and medical equipment
- Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States in a full-time basis
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of lab design and operation
- Minimum of two years of experience in a lab setting preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Detail oriented
- Able to demonstrate independent judgment and initiative appropriately
- Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard (40 WPM minimum) and ability to work effectively with Microsoft Office Products
- Ability to document patient records using proper grammar, spelling, and syntax
- At least 1 – 2 years' experience in a lab preferred
