Job Summary
Prepare laboratory specimens for microscopic evaluation by the Pathologist using microtomy, special staining, and histochemistry techniques. Embed tissue with correct identification and orientation, cut tissue to appropriate levels, and reprocess samples as required. Perform quality control procedures, visually review representative samples, and report discrepancies to the Pathology Manager. Maintain equipment used in specimen preparation and prepare cytology specimens including slide preparation. Comply with Universal Precautions and safety policies when handling body fluids and chemicals. Work Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-10pm.
Required Qualifications
- Histotechnician (HT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- Scientist in Histotechnology (SIH) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- License is required within 6 months from the date of hire
Desired Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Some College preferred
- Associate Degree in a Science preferred
- Up to two years directly related work experience
