Job Summary
The Histotech II performs routine and non-routine histology duties to prepare slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists, including specimen processing, embedding, slide preparation, microtomy, staining, and immunohistochemistry. Works under direct supervision, ensuring diagnostic viability, correct patient labeling, accurate block/slide matching, and compliance with QC, safety, and regulatory requirements (CLIA/CAP). Requires understanding of equipment and maintenance, follows established procedures, and participates in ongoing training. Reports to the Histology Supervisor in a fast-paced lab environment; must be able to multitask, maintain professionalism with physicians and lab personnel, and handle potential overtime. Education background includes HS diploma or equivalent with a strong preference for a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences; HT/HTL (ASCP) certification or eligible is preferred; 2+ years histology experience is required.
