Job Summary
Create and implement structured lesson plans while building a therapeutic rapport with students at Pelham Academy. Collaborate with the Special Education team to address academic needs and attend meetings with families and collaterals. Help students develop life skills, a sense of self, and competence to support their future steps. Provide physical interventions and verbal de-escalations to maintain a safe therapeutic atmosphere. Maintain a valid driver's license for transporting students. This role supports adolescents in a residential treatment setting specializing in trauma-informed care.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age
- Must be licensed or be eligible to be waived by the Massachusetts DESE for Special Education Moderate Disabilities 5-12 and/or Secondary Education licensure
- Maintains valid driver's license
- Must be able to create and implement structured lesson plans
- Must be able to work collaboratively with our Special Education team
- Must be able to attend meetings with family members, collaterals and other teams
- Must be able to help students discover what makes them feel competent and valued
- Must be able to provide physical interventions and verbal de-escalations
- Must pass background and driving record checks
Desired Qualifications
- Relevant experience with grades 5-12 preferred
- Knowledge of the relevant content area
- Speak a second language fluently, other than English
