Job Summary
Produce high quality diagnostic and testing materials for pathologists by grossing, processing, embedding, and preparing routine H&E slides, special stains, recuts, deepers, and IHC presentations. Perform quality control and documentation of all recorded processes using the laboratory information system, spreadsheets, and manual methods, while utilizing a hard stop to hold case progress when issues arise. Clean and maintain instrumentation, work benches, and archived materials, adhering to blood borne pathogen safety methods and personal protective equipment. Manage workflow and document issues using basic computing programs and the lab information system to look up cases and perform routine inquiries. With appropriate credentials, perform gross dissection for pathology specimens. This night shift position is centrally located in Houston, Texas.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid registration as Histotechnician HT or HTL
- 1-5 years of prior experience
Desired Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelors degree in a related science filed
- Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician or Histotechnologist program
- Associates, Bachelors, or accrued credits of 60 semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university
- Combination of 24 hours equally divided between biology and chemistry
- HT or HTL certification of QIHC
