Job Summary
Performs standardized histology procedures under supervision, including tissue embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping, labeling, and case distribution; may perform special histology and/or cytology specimen processing (e.g., muscle and nerve biopsy preparation, fine needle aspiration, immunohistochemical staining, histochemical stains, bone marrow processing); assists pathologists with gross examination and specimen collection, may prepare frozen sections, and handles miscellaneous tasks (maintenance, filing, reagents). Strong emphasis on tissue processing, staining, quality assurance, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team; requires related education/certification and the ability to work varied hours. Required Qualifications
- Associate's transcript showing 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of chemistry and biology (must include credit hours in both)
- Some College acceptance into an accredited histology certification program
- Histotechnician (HT) - American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 1-1/2 years
