Job Summary
Perform IHC and special stains within the Histology department by processing human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic exam. Section embedded tissue using a microtome, mount sections, and execute routine and special staining procedures on formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue. Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments while documenting equipment maintenance, logs, and preventive quality control procedures. Report accurate and timely test results, document problems affecting performance, and perform corrective actions in adherence to laboratory SOPs. Work Monday through Friday from 4:30 am to 1:00 pm with overtime and rotating weekends as required.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's of Science degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- 2 or more years Histology Experience
- Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
- Comfortable embedding both large and small specimens
- Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed
- Exceptional customer service
- Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
- Comfortable working under minimal supervision
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
Desired Qualifications
- Histology and ASCP certifications
- 5 or more years Histology Experience
- 6 months or more Immunohistochemistry experience
