Job Summary
Histologist responsible for routine histology tasks including embedding, grossing, sectioning, and staining (H&E, IHC, ISH) with hands-on use and oversight of histology equipment (microtome, cryostat, automated tissue processor, TMA, automated IHC stainer), data/documentation in LIS, and compliance with HIPAA and safety guidelines. Will perform tissue procurement considerations, ensure quality/throughput, document testing parameters/results, and support in evaluation of new equipment. Requires documentation accuracy, adherence to protocols, and safe handling of hazardous materials, with potential for supervisory duties minimal to none. Full-time role with salary range $73,958–$115,560 per year, located in Carpinteria, CA; no travel expected. Required Qualifications
- A.A. or A.S. in Biological Science, Basic Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1-2+ years experience with histology in a clinical or reference lab is preferred
- Working knowledge of OSHA requirements concerning chemical hygiene, biohazards and blood borne pathogens
- Demonstrated capability of safely handling carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials/reagents
- Capability of performing multiple tasks simultaneously and accurately
- Good written and verbal communication
