Job Summary
Plan, layout, weld, install, test and repair high-pressure pipe systems and related tubular products in accordance with plans, specs, codes, and industry standards. Welds to specifications using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding; install and verify operation of pipes and fittings; fabricate and install metal fittings, supports, valves, and other control equipment; read blueprints and diagrams; work with safety/regulatory requirements (OSHA/ABS) and perform tests for watertight integrity. Requires shipyard experience, ability to read plans, and proficiency with hand/power tools; capable of working with minimal supervision and during overtime/weekends. x-ray pipe welding experience and ABS certification required or pursued; strong emphasis on quality, safety, and adaptability to a physically demanding, active environment.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalence plus three to five years of pipe welding experience desired
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Requires x-ray pipe welding experience with the ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror weld
- Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA, and ABS standards
- Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified
