Job Summary
Plan, layout, weld, install, test and repair high-pressure steel pipe systems in a shipyard; review layouts, blueprints, diagrams, or work orders; complete welds to specified standards using SMAW, TIG or other welding processes; install and verify operation of high-pressure pipes and fittings; fabricate and install metal fittings, supports, valves, and other control equipment; test installed piping systems and troubleshoot; set up equipment and weld parts; produce high-quality, watertight welds in steel, stainless, and aluminum; work with minimal supervision; comply with safety, environmental, and OSHA/ABS standards; flexible hours including overtime; physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds; requires shipyard experience and relevant certifications.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalence
- three to five years of pipe welding experience
- x-ray pipe welding experience with ability to weld pipe in all positions
- mirror weld
- knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA and ABS standards
- Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified.
