Job Summary
Plan, layout, weld, install, test and repair all types of pipe and tubular products in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Welders will work with other crafts as instructed by supervision, review layouts/diagrams/blueprints for welding tasks, perform welds to specified standards using various welding methods, install and verify operation of high-pressure steel pipes and fittings, repair damaged pipe, fabricate/install metal fittings and supports, test installed piping systems, set up equipment for welding, troubleshoot equipment, produce high-quality welds including watertight penetrations, and operate with minimal supervision. The role requires shipyard experience, familiarity with ABS/Codes, OSHA standards, and the ability to read plans and symbols, with physical demands including lifting up to 50 pounds and working at height. Housing assistance is available and the employer emphasizes safety, integrity, and meeting project specifications.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalence
- Three to five years of pipe welding experience desired
- X-ray pipe welding experience and ability to weld pipe in all positions
- Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA and ABS standards
- Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and plans
- Ability to use hand and power tools for welding and installation
- Ability to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays
- Strong safety consciousness and attention to detail
