Job Summary
Plan, weld, install, test and repair all types of pipe and tubular products in a shipyard setting. Weld to plans and specifications using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding equipment; install and verify operation of high-pressure pipes and fittings; fabricate and install metal fittings, supports, valves, and related equipment; review layouts, blueprints, and work orders; work with other crafts under supervision; maintain safety and quality standards and be capable of performing welds in all positions with watertight penetrations across steel, stainless, and aluminum. Requires shipyard experience, knowledge of welding symbols and terminology, OSHA and ABS standards, the ability to read blueprints, and the ability to pass SMAW 6G pipe test for ABS certification; willingness to overtime, weekends, and holidays; housing assistance is available.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalence
- 3-5 years of pipe welding experience
- Experience with x-ray pipe welding and ability to weld pipe in all positions
- Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA and ABS standards
- Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld drawings
- Ability to operate hand and power tools used in welding and fabrication
- Ability to work in a shipyard environment with safety and quality standards
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to perform high-quality welds with watertight penetrations across materials (steel, stainless, aluminum)
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work at heights
