Job Summary
Entry-level Tackers (Structural Fitter Helpers) assist skilled craftspersons under supervision in a shipyard setting, performing duties such as reading blueprints and weld symbols, unloading and positioning heavy steel, fabricating and installing structural steel components (beams, braces, pipes, jackets, decks), laying out pipe and frames, and using industry tools (Come-a-longs, chain falls, etc.). The role requires physical work outdoors, ability to meet clothing/tool requirements, and flexibility for overtime, nights, and weekends; prior field experience and ability to read drawings are helpful.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (may require with previous years of experience in the field or related area)
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with management/supervision
- Field experience in chosen craft discipline
- Knowledge of safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools and layout tools
