Job Summary
Welds shell plating, fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position. Essential tasks include welding parts in position for fabrication of vessels/tanks/assemblies, using carbon electrodes to cut/shape/groove metal, preparing workplace for welding, examining weld sizes, cleaning weld area, removing scrap, and other duties relevant to the trade. Must meet FCAW qualification (71T-1, 811N3) and be able to work in shipyard environments, at heights, in confined spaces; ability to pass background checks and drug testing; walk-ins accepted. Materials/tools include welding machinery and PPE. Location in San Diego area; per diem offered for qualifying candidates.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience or training is required
- Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions
- Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, and any assigned shift
- Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English)
- Must be able to hear warning signals
