Job Summary
1st Class Ship Fitter lays out and fabricates metal structural parts and braces them in position within hull of vessel for welding. Must comprehend blueprints, sketches, and templates; able to enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces; perform layout, cutting, measuring, and fitting; determine positions of structural components from blueprints, provide direction to subordinate ship fitters and tack welders; lay out parts on metal using blueprints; mark reference lines; position parts in hull and align relative to each other; mark hole locations and install temporary fasteners for welding or riveting; install packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories; tack weld clips and brackets; bend, flange, cut, and shape plates, beams, and other heavy metal parts; must work in confined spaces and at elevations; must wear a respirator when applicable; follow company safety and quality policies; overtime as required; reports to work daily and on time; Labor One Staffing is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
