Job Summary
Layout and fabricate metal structural parts for ship hulls (plates, bulkheads, frames), brace them in position for riveting or welding, prepare molds/templates for nonstandard parts, and align parts from blueprints using hand tools and measuring equipment. Responsibilities include cutting and preparing parts, marking reference lines, assembling and welding/riveting assemblies, installing accessories, and working with minimal supervision. Requires shipyard experience, high school diploma or GED, ability to read blueprints, knowledge of shop safety/OSHA rules, and flexibility for overtime; housing assistance is available.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- ship fitting experience 3-5 years
- knowledge of materials, methods, tools for marine vessel fabrication
- torch or plasma cutter capability
- tack weld with 7018 6011 stainless rods
- MIG and aluminum welding
- ship terminology, safety, OSHA regulations
- read blueprints
- tape measure
- safety-conscious
- attention to detail
