Job Summary
Lay out and fabricate metal structural parts, braces them in position within the hull, and tack weld clips and brackets prior to permanent welding. Determine component positions from blueprints or templates, locate reference lines, and mark hole locations for drilling. Bend, flange, cut, and shape heavy metal parts while installing packing, gaskets, liners, and structural accessories. Work in confined spaces, elevations over five feet, and wear respirators as applicable. Provide direction to subordinate ship fitters and tack welders. Work overtime as required and report daily on time. Follow all company policies regarding safety, environmental standards, and quality systems.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) years of marine or four (4) years of continuous Company experience preferred
- Comprehends blueprints, sketches, and templates
- Able to enter and move through manholes to reach and work in internally confined spaces
- Accurate in performing the following processes layout, cutting, measuring, and fitting
- Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces
- Must be able to work/climb in elevations greater than 5'
- Must be able to wear/work a respirator when applicable
- Must follow all Company policies and procedures, including those relative to employee safety, environmental policy, and the principles of our quality system
- Works overtime as required
- Reports to work daily and on time
