Job Summary
Shipfitters in a Florida shipyard perform steel structural work in all stages of new marine vessel construction. The role requires the ability to read blueprints and ship construction terminology, interpret drawings, measure with US customary and metric systems, and fabricate components using oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting. Candidates should have three years of related experience, be able to follow safety protocols (PPE/OSHA), and effectively communicate with supervision. This long-term project offers housing assistance, overtime, and per-diem for qualifying workers. The position emphasizes physical capability, blueprint Reading, weld symbol interpretation, and fabrication of templates and perpendiculars in ship structures.
Required Qualifications
- Be physically and medically capable of wearing all required PPE under OSHA standards
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings (including weld symbols) and blueprints
- Experience reading plans and ship construction terminology
- Three (3) years of related experience in shipbuilding/fit-out
- Ability to measure using US customary measurement system and metric system
- Experience fabricating templates and installing perpendiculars on ships per drawings/specifications
- Proficiency with oxy-acetylene torch and plasma cutting
- Experience using hand and power tools safely (mauls, grinders, saws, drills)
- Knowledge of ship terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature
- Ability to communicate job-related information to supervisor and small groups
- Compliance with OSHA safety standards and shipyard practices
- Ability to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
- Ability to understand and apply job drawings and specifications
- Reading blueprints and interpreting job specifications
