Job Summary
Provide safe, compassionate, and individualized nursing care throughout labor, delivery, antepartum, and postpartum periods. Perform comprehensive maternal and fetal assessments, monitor vital signs and fetal heart rate, and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition. Assist with vaginal and Cesarean deliveries, administer medications per protocol, and provide immediate postpartum care and newborn stabilization. Deliver patient and family education regarding labor, recovery, and discharge planning while maintaining accurate clinical documentation. Collaborate with physicians, midwives, neonatal teams, and anesthesia professionals to support evidence-based obstetric practices and quality improvement initiatives. Work in a fast-paced environment caring for approximately 250 births annually with patient ratios ranging from 1:1 in active labor to 1:6 in postpartum care. Requires current RN license, BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications.
Required Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state of practice
- Experience and clinical competency appropriate for Labor & Delivery nursing
- Strong knowledge of maternal and fetal assessment
- Ability to interpret and respond to fetal monitoring information
- Ability to recognize obstetric emergencies and initiate appropriate interventions
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to patient-centered and family-centered care
- Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- BLS certification
- ACLS certification
- NRP certification
- Current fetal monitoring competency, renewed every 2 years
