Job Summary
Pipefitter lays out, installs, and maintains vessels' piping systems such as heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure and oil lines. Follows blueprints, uses hand tools and shop machines, cuts and bores holes in bulkheads/decks, installs piping and fittings, welds pipe support brackets, and tests installed systems for leaks to meet specifications. Typically works with a tacker/helper/apprentice; position emphasizes problem solving and precision. Shipyard environment with responsibilities including planning from layouts and ensuring long hours (40–70 per week). Requires the ability to stand, lift heavy items, and work in tandem with another pipefitter; housing assistance is available. Equal opportunity employer.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in shipyard piping installation and maintenance
- Ability to read layouts/blueprints
- Proficiency with hand tools and shop machines
- Ability to bend or thread pipe and install fittings/valves/traps/thermostats
- Ability to test systems for leaks (hydrostatic or equivalent)
