Job Summary
Pipefitters for a shipyard role in Pascagoula, MS execute layout, installation, and maintenance of vessel piping systems including heat/power, hot water, hydraulic, air, and oil lines. They read blueprints, use hand tools and shop machines to cut/thread pipe, install fittings and valves, weld supports, and test systems for leaks to meet specifications. The position often involves working with an apprentice or helper, requires strong problem-solving and precision, and includes significant physical work with heavy items and standing. Required Qualifications
- Pipefitter experience required
- Lays out, installs, and maintains vessels' piping systems (heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, oil lines)
- Reads blueprints and uses hand tools and shop machines
- Cuts and bores holes in bulkheads and decks for pipe installation
- Operates shop machinery to cut and thread pipe and fittings
- Connects pipes to fixtures and tests systems for leaks
- May work with an apprentice or helper
- Works in a shipyard setting; physical demands include standing
- Regular and predictable attendance required
