Job Summary
Pipefitter in a shipyard performs layout, installation, and maintenance of vessels' piping systems (heat/power, hot water, hydraulic, air pressure, oil lines) following blueprints; cuts/bores holes in bulkheads/decks; fabricates piping segments in shop; tests systems for leaks and compliance; often works with an apprentice/tacker; typical hours range from 40 to 70 per week; housing assistance is available; transportation to facility is the worker's responsibility.
Required Qualifications
- Shipyard pipefitter experience
- Ability to read layouts and blueprints
- Experience installing and maintaining piping systems (heat and power, hot water, hydraulic, air, oil)
- Ability to operate shop machines and hand tools
- Ability to work in a shop and field environment
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and handle heavy items
- Willingness to work 40-70 hours per week
