Job Summary
Plan, layout, weld, install, test and repair all types of pipe and similar tubular products in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Weld high-pressure steel pipes and fittings, read layouts/blueprints, verify operation of installed piping, and fabricate/install metal fittings and supports. Perform welding using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, and gas welding equipment; troubleshoot equipment; ensure water-tight welds with stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel; work with minimal supervision; comply with safety and environmental rules; flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. Must possess shipyard-specific experience, the ability to pass 6G pipe tests, and ABS certification readiness; strong emphasis on reading blueprints, understanding welding symbols, and safety procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalence
- 3 to 5 years pipe welding experience
- Working knowledge of equipment, welding processes and techniques for measuring, fitting and welding steel
- X-ray pipe welding experience with ability to weld pipe in all positions
- Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA, and ABS standards
- Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified
