Job Summary
Plan, layout, weld, install, test and repair all types of pipe and similar tubular products in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. Perform welding across high-pressure piping, read blueprints/diagrams, install fittings, valves, and other control equipment, and ensure quality welds (including water-tight penetrations) with SMAW and related techniques. Requires shipyard experience, ability to work with minimal supervision, flexibility for overtime and weekends, and compliance with safety/environmental rules. Must have x-ray welding experience and pass 6G tests to achieve ABS certification; familiarity with OSHA and ABS standards and ability to interpret welding symbols and blueprints.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalence
- Three to five years’ pipe welding experience
- Working knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring, fitting and welding steel
- X-ray pipe welding experience with ability to weld pipe in all positions and mirror welding
- Knowledge of welding symbols, ship terminology, OSHA and ABS standards
- Must pass SMAW 6G Pipe Test to become ABS Certified
