Job Summary
Riggers needed to rig materials for movement onto ships or within the yard, convey instructions to crane operators and forklift drivers via hand signals or radio, locate and load/unload materials, test and install rigging equipment (cargo booms, davits, winches, pulleys), and select appropriate cables, ropes, and hardware to handle loads. Requires five years of shipyard or Boatswain Mate Second Class level experience, ability to operate in heights and confined spaces, and familiarity with rigging gear and testing procedures. Physical tasks include frequent lifting and maneuvering rigging gear, climbing, bending, and working around heavy machinery with exposure to fumes, dust, and high-noise environments. Required Qualifications
- Five years experience at ship yards or five years experience as Boatswain Mate Second Class P. O. or above
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Good knowledge of all rigging equipment, ability to test shipboard and yard equipment
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces and to access and move around ship safely
