Job Summary

Perform histological procedures using manual and automated techniques to produce high-quality pathology slides for Pathologist review. Process, embed, and section tissue specimens according to established protocols, while executing routine H&E staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry. Verify positive and negative controls, maintain accurate documentation, and escalate issues involving specimens, equipment, or results to supervisors. Complete instrument verification, preventive maintenance, and quality control activities throughout the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases. Maintain laboratory inventory and participate in regulatory inspections, audits, and proficiency testing. Work evening shifts with varying hours in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician License, NYS Histotechnician license/credential, or NYS Physician Assistant (PA) License, as applicable
  • Education must meet applicable New York State Office of the Professions and CLIA requirements for laboratory testing personnel
  • Strong understanding of laboratory procedures, quality control, and safety requirements
  • Ability to accurately perform detailed technical laboratory procedures

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and protocols

  • Must follow laboratory safety procedures and applicable Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements
  • Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods
  • Must be able to continuously operate computers, laboratory equipment, and related devices
  • Requires the ability to concentrate on fine details, including during periods of interruption
  • Must be able to maintain focus on technical tasks for periods exceeding 60 minutes
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment while maintaining accuracy and safety standards

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in Medical Technology, Histotechnology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related science
  • At least 1 year of relevant histology experience, preferably in a clinical laboratory setting
  • ASCP certification preferred
  • Experience with routine H&E staining, special stains, tissue embedding and sectioning, and immunohistochemistry preferred
