Job Summary
Highway Technician role performing general highway maintenance on Indiana highways and interstates, including picking up trash and debris, filling potholes, maintaining drainage, snow/plowing operations, and assisting with traffic control during emergency road closures. Entry-level with opportunities for career advancement; overtime required for emergency operations. Duties may expand to Traffic Inventory Specialist tasks such as installing and maintaining traffic signs, route markers, and pavement markings, and managing inventory with computerized systems. Must possess or obtain a valid CDL within 90 days, pass a drug test, lift 50 pounds, and work outdoors in varying weather. No degree required; strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, and ability to operate maintenance equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) or obtain one with the first 90 days of employment.
- Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time.
- Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.
- Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g. bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.)
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
