Job Summary
INDOT Highway Technician position in Bainbridge, IN performing highway maintenance, winter operations, emergency response, inspections, and asset support under INDOT supervision.Responsibilities include operating highway maintenance/traffic equipment, maintaining and installing signs and markings, conducting routine maintenance and inspections, entering job data in WMS, coordinating materials and equipment with the supervisor, and providing feedback on employee issues. The role may include specialty tracks such as Asset Inspector, Bridge Maintenance & Repair, Contracts Inspector, Heavy Equipment Operator, and Herbicide applications. Requires CDL (or ability to obtain within 90 days), ability to pass a drug test, physical fitness to lift 50 lbs and work in inclement weather, basic computer skills, and the ability to read technical documents. Supervisory responsibilities may apply depending on agency needs. Benefits include a comprehensive state employment package.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one within first 90 days of employment
- Must pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment
- General knowledge of federal, state, and local highway guidelines, laws and regulations, principles and practices for construction inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of highway
- Broad knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Ability to read, interpret and follow technical documents
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods
- Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather
- Heavy Equipment Operator specialty may require additional CDL and training
- Herbicide specialty may require core herbicide license and Class 6 license
- Shared workforce may require completion of Certified Highway Technician Construction Courses or Highway Technician Testing Courses
- A degree not required, High School Diploma or equivalency may be considered
