Job Summary
Highway Technician role with INDOT in Romney Unit, Indiana. Entry-level position performing highway maintenance duties such as trash/debris removal, pothole filling, drainage maintenance, snow and ice removal, and traffic control during emergencies. Responsibilities include operating highway maintenance and traffic equipment, loading supplies, performing regular equipment maintenance, and assisting with lane closures and sign/barricade placement. Additional duties may include traffic inventory tasks like maintaining signs, route markers, pavement markings, and inventory control. Requirements include a valid CDL or obtaining one within 90 days, ability to pass a drug test, capable of lifting 50 pounds, physical stamina for outdoor work and variable weather, and ability to work in a team. CDL training is provided onsite for eligible candidates; there is potential for career advancement and municipal benefits. Required Qualifications
- Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or obtain one with the first 90 days of employment
- Pass and submit to a drug test as a condition of employment
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods of time
- Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather
- Ability to operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g. bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.)
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
