Highway Maintenance Laborer / Transportation Operator

Job Summary
Assist with roadway repairs, right-of-way maintenance, and equipment operation while performing minor preventive maintenance on tools. Operate hand and power tools safely, wear required PPE, and maintain a clean work environment. Support roadway maintenance and construction activities, including heavy manual labor such as lifting materials up to 50 pounds. Respond to emergency call-outs for snow removal, storm response, and accident cleanup, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Communicate effectively with supervisors regarding assignments and project progress. Complete all required VDOT and industry training, pass a background check and drug screening, and successfully finish a 90-day probationary period.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction activities
- Experience operating highway maintenance equipment and performing preventive maintenance
- Proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of hand and power tools
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments and adverse weather conditions
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a maintenance crew
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance
- Ability to respond to emergency situations outside normal working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- High School Diploma or GED
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening
- Ability to successfully pass a background check
- Completion of all required VDOT and industry training
- Successful completion of a 90-day probationary period
