Job Summary
Highway Engineer role focusing on district-level project scoping and planning; represents District Scoping Manager in administering multiple complex projects and programs; responsibilities include planning & project management, program management, design and research, inspection, data analysis, testing, quality control, and support for proposal development while ensuring compliance with design standards and engineering best practices; requires knowledge of AASHTO/ASTM standards, IDM/IMUTCD, and CAD/GIS tools; PE license not initially required for Engineer Trainee level but licensure pursued for advancement; located in INDOT Crawfordsville District; compensation starts around $75,010 annually with potential increases based on experience and milestones; travel and overtime obligations may apply; includes benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- A Professional Engineers license in Indiana is required; exceptions may be considered for candidates holding an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification who are actively pursuing PE licensure in Indiana
- valid Driver's License
- extensive knowledge of civil engineering theories, principles, methods, and procedures
- broad knowledge of planning, design, or construction of highway or transportation project features
- extensive knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and procedures governing incumbents in this field
- computer aided design and drafting skills
- ability to prepare and review complex design plans and reports
- ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric, and higher mathematical computations
- knowledge of AASHTO, ASTM standards; IDM, IMUTCD; INDOT standards and drawings
- familiarity with SPMS, dTIMS, ArcGIS, WMS
- experience requirement: at least 4 years in engineering or related field (degree not required)
- may require bridge-related training depending on specialty
