Job Summary
High Voltage Substation Inspector role focusing on field inspections of construction projects to ensure conformance with plans, specifications, and codes. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing site data, using survey instruments and test equipment, generating precise documentation, leading inspection tasks when needed, participating in pre-construction meetings, assisting with risk assessment and mitigation, coordinating inspection plans, and providing guidance to entry-level staff. Travel up to 100% may be required; projects may involve long-duration stays. Strong knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and reporting is essential, as is the ability to work both independently and within cross-functional teams, with a focus on safety and quality in power delivery and grid-related projects.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 9 years of relevant post-education experience in construction inspection
- 5+ years of active field inspection experience
- computer skills to fill out daily/weekly reports
- working knowledge of Word and Excel
- Valid state driver’s license
- Well-defined knowledge of construction inspection principles and codes
- Analytical mindset for evaluation and decision-making
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Ability to travel and stay for a minimum of 6 weeks at a time
- Ability to work up to 12 hours/day
- Ability to wear PPE on-site
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs+
- Ability to walk 3-5 miles daily
- Experience leading/subcontractors and junior staff
- Safety, health and diversity policies adherence
- Project scheduling and coordination
- Documentation through photographs, sketches, calculations, and reports
- Travel readiness for up to 12 hours/day and 5-6 days/week preferred
