Job Summary
High School Science Teacher at Uncommon Schools – Teach a curriculum across Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Sciences with emphasis on inquiry-based learning and student discourse. Prepare students for AP and collegiate coursework; facilitate student-led inquiry, data analysis, and lab/project-based performance tasks; differentiate instruction to meet diverse learners. Collaborate with the Science department to set academic goals, meet weekly with a principal/coach to analyze student work trends, and engage families to support learning. Participate in weekly school-wide meetings, contribute to building a positive school culture, and pursue ongoing professional development and certification in New Jersey. Compensation ranges from $56,000 to $80,000, with comprehensive benefits and a focus on equity and student achievement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NJ state certification eligibility requirements and the ability to become certified in New Jersey within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- Demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experience preferred)
- Academic expertise in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields
- Commitment to supporting students\' social-emotional and academic development
- Willingness to engage in practice-based professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions
