Job Summary
Establish and maintain liaison between school security personnel, other officers, and social agencies to inform students of their rights and responsibilities. Enforce federal, state, and local criminal laws while assisting school officials with Board of Education policies regarding student conduct. Act as a resource to the principal for investigating violations, securing special events, and managing traffic control during student arrivals and departures. Confer with administration to develop strategies for preventing dangerous situations and proactively address emerging security needs. Conduct formal interviews with students or staff in compliance with board policy and applicable law. Operate a motor vehicle, use communication devices, and perform duties in various indoor and outdoor environments while adhering to all district policies and background check requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Law Enforcement Officer
- Experience in law enforcement
- Must be able to prepare, read and comprehend a variety of job-related forms, reports, spreadsheets, maps, plans, records, documentation and correspondence
- Must be able to speak to individuals or groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
- Must be able to respond adequately to inquiries or complaints
- Must be able to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Must be able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form
- Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently by using communication device or system
- Must be able to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions
- Must be able to perform under stress, deal with persons acting under stress and adapt when confronted with emergency situations
- Must be able to be sensitive to cultural differences among individuals and groups of persons
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle
- Must be able to operate/use a variety of communication machines/equipment/devices
- Must be able to walk, run, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel and crouch
- Must be able to work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions
- Must be able to hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
- Must be able to safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
- Must be able to adhere to ALL of Richmond County Schools Board of Education Policies
- Employment will require extensive background check
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in law enforcement preferable
