High School Principal

Job Summary

Lead a secondary school by supervising, developing, and evaluating staff while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Manage day-to-day school operations, implement district and building goals, and balance long-range strategic planning with instructional leadership to improve teaching and learning. Build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community to create a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. Ensure high ethical standards and sound judgment in all interactions. Requires New York State School Building Leader certification, five years of public school experience including three years of administrative leadership, and demonstrated success as an exceptional educator and instructional leader.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid New York State School Building Leader (SBL) certification (or eligibility for certification).
  • Minimum of five years of successful public school experience, including at least three years of administrative leadership experience at the secondary level or an equivalent leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success as an exceptional educator and instructional leader with a commitment to improving student achievement.
  • Thorough knowledge of New York State Learning Standards, graduation requirements, assessment practices, and school improvement processes.
  • Evidence of strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, develop, and evaluate staff while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment.
  • High ethical standards, sound judgment, and unquestioned personal and professional integrity.

Desired Qualifications

  • Successful administrative and/or teaching experience at the secondary level.
  • Demonstrated instructional leadership with a proven ability to improve teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards, graduation requirements, assessments, and data-driven instructional practices.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with students, staff, families, and the community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture.
  • High energy, strong organizational skills, and unquestioned personal and professional integrity.
  • Proven ability to provide visible, collaborative leadership while balancing long-range strategic planning with effective day-to-day school operations.
  • Experience leading school improvement initiatives and implementing district and building goals.
  • Commitment to building strong relationships and promoting high expectations for all students and staff.
  • Ability to effectively supervise, develop, and evaluate staff while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
