Job Summary
High School History teacher role responsible for delivering AP-ready and college-preparatory instruction in World History, US History, American Government, and Economics. You will lead student-led discourse, facilitate analysis of primary and secondary sources, and guide students in argumentation, sourcing, and historiography. Responsibilities include collaboration with the History department to set academic and engagement goals, differentiating instruction to meet diverse learners, conducting weekly data reviews with the principal or instructional coach, and engaging families and the broader school community. The role emphasizes inclusive, safe learning environments, ongoing professional development, and participation in weekly school-wide meetings. Qualified candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to urban student development, strong collaboration skills, and prior interest or experience in impacting K-12 students. Prior teaching experience (1-2 years preferred) and a bachelor’s degree are required; NY certification eligibility is needed with enrollment in a teacher-preparation program and GPA maintenance if no education degree. Compensation ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 with comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Certification not required to be hired at Uncommon, but must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain GPA of 2.5 or higher during employment if you do not have a degree in education
- Must become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment
