Job Summary
Teach World History, US History, American Government, and Economics with emphasis on AP and collegiate-level coursework; facilitate student-led discourse, analyze sources, and develop argumentation and historiography skills; build an inclusive classroom and partner with families to support student learning; collaborate with the History department to set academic and engagement goals, and participate in weekly data-analysis and school-wide meetings; participate in practice-based professional development and mentorship; advance students toward college readiness and autonomous learning.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but you must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during employment if you do not have a degree in education
- Must become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- 1-2 years of experience in urban schools or communities (preferred)
- Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities
