Job Summary
High School History teachers work in department teams to push students toward becoming self-guided learners, teaching AP-ready World History, US History, American Government, and Economics; they foster inquiry, analyze primary and secondary sources, and develop historiography and argumentation while creating an inclusive classroom environment. The role emphasizes collaboration with families and external partners, differentiation to meet diverse learners, weekly data-analysis with principals or instructional coaches, and ongoing professional development and mentoring as part of a school-wide effort to prepare students for college and autonomy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but must meet NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enroll in a teacher preparation program and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher if not have a degree in education
- Must become certified in the state of New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- 1-2 years experience preferred in impacting K-12 urban schools
- Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities
