Job Summary
Uncommon Schools seeks a High School History Teacher to deliver a curriculum emphasizing analysis of World and US History, American Government, and Economics, with readiness for AP and college coursework. You will facilitate student-led discourse, develop sourcing and historiography skills from primary and secondary sources, and guide students in argumentation and evidence-based debate. Responsibilities include collaborating with the History department to set academic and engagement goals, differentiating instruction to support all learners, building a positive classroom culture, engaging families to support student learning, and participating in weekly instructional meetings and PD. The role requires a bachelor’s degree; NY state certification eligibility is required, with certification pursued within a reasonable period after start. Prior teaching experience (1-2 years preferred) and expertise in related humanities disciplines are valued. Compensation ranges from $50,000 to $64,700 plus comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- Meet NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enrollment in a teacher preparation program and maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or higher if not having a degree in education
- Must become certified in New York within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- 1-2 years of teaching experience preferred
- Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities
