Job Summary
High School History teachers at Uncommon Schools teach World History, US History, American Government, and Economics to prepare students for AP and college coursework. You will facilitate student-led discourse, analyze primary and secondary sources, and develop historiography and argumentation skills, while fostering an inclusive classroom and partnering with families. Responsibilities include differentiating instruction, meeting weekly with the principal/coach to analyze student work trends, collaborating with the History department to set goals, and participating in weekly school-wide meetings to support student achievement. Required qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and NY state certification eligibility, with a path to certification within a reasonable period. Desired experience includes 1-2 years in urban K-12 settings, and a commitment to supporting students’ social, emotional, and academic development. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- NY state certification eligibility requirements
- Enrollment in a teacher preparation program and maintenance of a 2.5 GPA or higher if not holding a degree in education
- Certification required within a reasonable period after beginning employment
- Experience: 1-2 years preferred in urban K-12 settings
- Academic expertise in Education, History, Geography, Political Science, Criminal Justice, Social Sciences, or the Humanities
