Job Summary
Head Cross Country Coach at Illini Bluffs High School leads the total sports program, applying teaching principles, organizing and supervising the program, directing coaches and student-athletes, adhering to IHSA rules, coordinating with the Athletic Director, and handling equipment, budgets, recruitment of assistant coaches, and parental communication. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, Illinois teaching certifications (Type 03/09/10) or ASEP/NFHS, coaching experience, knowledge of sport techniques and safety standards, and ability to lift up to 30 lbs and push/pull up to 20 lbs. Reports to the High School Activities Director and participates in annual scheduling and program development.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Type 03, 09, or 10 Illinois Teaching Certificate or ASEP or NFHS Certification
- Ability to organize and lead a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport
- Substantial knowledge of the sport, rules, techniques, strategies, and teaching techniques
- Ability to deal with sensitive issues tactfully and professionally
- Ability to instruct athletes in individual and team fundamentals, strategy, and physical training
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs
- Ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs
- Reports To: High School Activities Director
- Directs and assumes general responsibility for the total program
- Develops standards of conduct and safety for all student athletes
- Maintain parental contact during the season when necessary
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and training of Assistant Coaches
- Keep records of individual and team stats for permanent file
- Attend meetings with Athletic Director and assist with annual budget and equipment ordering
- Other duties as assigned
