Job Summary
High School Family & Consumer Science Teacher (9-12) responsible for delivering TEA-aligned instruction, developing lesson plans, assessing student learning, collaborating with special education to modify curricula via IEPs, supervising instructional aides and volunteers, sponsoring extracurricular activities, maintaining professional communication with parents and community, and participating in staff development and committees. Requires a Bachelor’s degree and a valid Texas teaching certificate with endorsements for the subject and level; duties include planning, instruction, classroom management, and using diverse strategies to address student differences.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- [Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) certificate]
- One year student teaching or approved internship
- Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Experience: One year student teaching or approved internship
- Plan and implement lesson plans
- Plan and use instructional strategies
- Modify curricula for special education students via IEPs
- Supervise instructional aide(s) and volunteers
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement
- Sponsor extracurricular activities
- Maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members
- Participate in staff development
- Comply with state, district, and school regulations
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on committees
- Direct the work of instructional aides
