Job Summary
Plan and deliver effective ENL instruction aligned to students' language proficiency levels, developing academic reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary skills across whole-group, small-group, and individual settings. Differentiate instruction and create scaffolds to help multilingual learners access rigorous grade-level content while administering NYSESLAT and other required assessments. Monitor student progress, adjust interventions, and maintain accurate records of student data. Collaborate with content-area teachers through co-planning and co-teaching, and work with school leadership and special education staff to address individual needs. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress. Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment and participate actively in professional development and school-wide initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- New York State certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL/TESOL), or appropriate eligibility for certification
- Strong understanding of English language development and instructional practices for multilingual learners
- Ability to analyze assessment data and use results to inform instruction
- Strong classroom management, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
- Commitment to high academic expectations and culturally responsive instruction
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and protect confidential student information
- Comfort using educational technology and Google Workspace
Desired Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English
- Master's degree in TESOL, bilingual education, education, or a related field
- Experience teaching multilingual learners at the middle or high school level
- Experience supporting newcomer and immigrant students
- Experience with integrated ENL instruction, co-teaching, or content-area collaboration
