Job Summary
High School Counselor position (12-month contract) responsible for academic and career guidance, counseling, and compliance with graduation requirements. Duties include reviewing and auditing student degree plans, conducting credit checks, advising on course selection and endorsement tracks, assisting with college readiness initiatives and financial aid processes (FAFSA/TASFA), delivering short-term individual and group counseling, implementing preventive programs for mental health and bullying, coordinating crisis-response plans with district and county services, maintaining confidentiality of student records, staying current with TEA updates and professional development, and using student information systems for scheduling, course requests, and academic tracking. Requires mastery of graduation requirements, transcript evaluation, testing coordination (SAT, ACT, TSIA2), strong communication and crisis-intervention skills, and ability to interpret student performance data to drive interventions.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in School Counseling from an accredited university
- Valid Texas School Counselor Certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
- Prior experience as a high school counselor is desirable
